Timo Werner to Chelsea EPL

Chelsea take on Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday and manager Thomas Tuchel will be without some key players for this particular encounter.

Blues defender Christensen had a head injury scare against Barnsley last week but thankfully it was not a concussion and he will be available for selection vs the Magpies.

‘It was not concussion-related at all,’ he said, during the weekend, as per the club’s official website. ‘It was a headache so we took him off.’

Thiago Silva though is still out due to the muscle injury he had picked up a few weeks ago and he will miss out on Monday.

‘It’s too soon for sure for Thiago,’ admitted Tuchel. ‘We are aiming for Southampton and trying hard so let’s see if we make it but we cannot promise.’

Silva will be a big miss for Chelsea and the absence of the Brazilian means Cesar Azpilicueta will once again have to play in the three-man backline.

Midfielder Kai Havertz is another player who is likely to miss out on Monday as he’s yet to return to full training. But forward Timo Werner will be back in contention after missing out the game against Barnsley in the FA Cup with a thigh injury.

‘It’s Friday and we still have three training sessions before the game,’ he added. ‘It should be absolutely okay for Timo to come back but maybe too close for Kai.

‘I’m not sure if he’s out [of training] today but he will be missing this match as well.’

Thiago Silva’s absence will surely hurt Chelsea but Kai Havertz will not be a big miss for the manager since Mason Mount has done great in that attacking midfielder’s role under the new boss and with the summer signing set to miss out, Mount will reprise his role in the starting line-up.
