Christian Eriksen playing for Denmark

Man United signed Christian Eriksen as a free agent this summer and in his first few friendly outings, the playmaker has really shone for his new side.

He played against Atletico Madrid and then against Rayo Vallecano and particularly against Simeone’s side, Eriksen had a very solid and instant impact coming off the bench.

At first glance, everyone assumed Christian Eriksen is going to be a backup player who is going to be used mostly as a sub but there is a great chance that he is going to be a regular starter for Man United, particularly in Europe.

In a recent interview, Christian Eriksen revealed how he talked with every ex-United boss before he chose to join the Old Trafford outfit.

“I’ve spoken to every manager who’s been here at Man United to see what the situation was,” Eriksen told ESPN(h/t Fotmob).

“But I was at Spurs at the time and I really couldn’t see myself playing in another English team at that time. I went abroad and went to Inter.

“It’s been on the books, well, not on the books but it’s been spoken about. For me, it wasn’t the [right] timing, it wasn’t there and I was at a place at Spurs for a long time and I wanted to try something abroad, and I went to Inter and ended up having a lovely time.

“But then obviously something happened in the summer and that changed a bit the career path I had in mind, and then obviously to come back to Brentford first of all and then to be here is something I didn’t think could happen a year ago.”

After his successful spell with Brentford, there were rumours about Spurs wanting to take him back and in this interview, Christian Eriksen has also revealed why he opted for a move to Man United.

“It was only talk[about joining Spurs]. They never really came with anything, so it wasn’t really a thing for me to go back to Tottenham at the time and Man United were very early on, very positive and I had good conversations,” he said.

“It was very positive from the first few phone calls already and the club felt like they wanted me, so it was on for a long time.”

Christian Eriksen played 21 minutes against Atleti and around 60 minutes vs Vallecano and in both these matches, he looked very much like a player who is going to find success under Erik ten Hag.

He’s someone who can hold the ball well and is also a great distributor of the ball from the middle of the pitch and if Man United eventually get their hands on Frenkie de Jong then Eriksen along with De Jong could become the first-choice central midfield pairing for Manchester United this season.
