Manchester United and Spurs have been trying to sign Christian Eriksen and according to journalist Alex Crook, United are finally about to get their hands on the playmaker.

Eriksen left Brentford at the end of the season so he is available as a free agent which is why Man United and Spurs have been so keen to bring him on board. However, Tottenham have dropped off their interest in the previous few days meaning United were running a one-horse race.

Crook has now updated that Manchester United should be able to wrap up the transfer in the coming weeks.

He wrote on Twitter: “Confidence growing at MUFC that Eriksen will sign. The fact it is even a debate is a stark reminder of how far they have fallen.

“The days when players would walk barefoot to Old Trafford are over. Ten Hag already realising the enormity of the task he has inherited.”

How will Christian Eriksen fit in at Manchester United?

Alex Crook is spot on with his analysis because while teams like Arsenal, Man City and Spurs are signing players left right and centre, Manchester United are yet to make even a single signing.

The club’s aura has surely gotten stale over time but the signing of Christian Eriksen can certainly be a very good one.

He had a pretty solid time at Brentford, scoring one and assisting four goals in 17 Premier League matches and after Pogba and Matic’s exit, the 30-year-old will bring in the much-needed experience in central midfield.

He is an out-and-out creative midfielder who has an eye for a pass so all the playmaking pressure won’t fall on Bruno Fernandes next season. We do not think Christian Eriksen will start each and every weekend but he’s certainly a luxury to have off the bench.

Ten Hag’s team generally like to take control of the midfield and someone like Eriksen can certainly help do that with Scott McTominay acting as his deputy.

Also, unlike Pogba, Christian Eriksen is a willing runner so he will also put in proper shifts – both in attack as well as defence.

Signing a centre-forward and a defender is the main priority for United’s new manager but he also needed a new central midfielder and by signing Eriksen, ETH will at least be able to plug one hole in his side.
