RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo has been linked with several top European teams and by the looks of it, he could be on his way out as soon as the European Championship comes to an end.
Barcelona have a long-standing interest in Olmo while Premier League sides Manchester City and Liverpool have also been linked with him and the 26-year-old has just revealed that he is open to a summer exit from Germany.
“I’m open to future possibilities, my people are the ones who have to know,” said Olmo, at a press conference[h/t SPORT]. “Now I’m going to use a cliché, but it’s true, I have to be focused on the European Championship.”
Is Dani Olmo going to be a Barcelona player?
Barcelona are very keen to bring Olmo on board, especially now that Hansi Flick is the new club manager but we seriously do not think they have the money to pay his €60 million release clause.
Flick wants to bring in a new No. 10 for his new-look starting line up and Olmo along with Bernardo Silva are the two top targets for Barcelona right now.
However, we think if Barcelona can somehow gather the funds they will try and land Bernardo Silva from Manchester City because the Portugal international is a much more effective player than Dani Olmo.
Olmo has 9 goal contributions in 21 league games for Leipzig this season while Bernardo Silva has 15 goal contributions in 33 Premier League and that too while playing mostly as a right-winger instead of an attacking midfielder.
Silva has been linked with Barcelona for more than a year and even he is eager to play at Camp Nou. So, if the Catalans can bring in around €60 million they will much rather prefer to spend €58 million on triggering the Man City midfielder’s release clause.
Man City or Liverpool: Who is more likely to sign the Leipzig midfielder?
Liverpool have recently joined this transfer race along with Manchester City but if Pep was to lose Silva, the manager will definitely look to Dani Olmo as the ideal replacement.
Some rumours have suggested that Man City have made initial enquiries about the Spanish international and if Olmo does wish to move to the Premier League then he should choose to play at the Etihad Stadium instead of joining Liverpool who will be managed by a new manager.
Silva could leave this summer and De Bruyne will probably also take an exit in one or two seasons and in such a scenario, Dani Olmo will have the chance to be the undisputed No. 10 at Man City.
It’s still unclear which one of these English sides is the favourite because Liverpool are yet to make any concrete offers but if the 26-year-old has made up his mind to leave RB Leipzig, he will want to join a team where he is guaranteed silverware instead of joining a rebuild at Anfield. Also, the lure of playing under a manager like Pep Guardiola is unmatched.
