Danny Drinkwater finally ended his Chelsea misery after he secured a loan move to Burnley FC this summer. But now there are rumours the midfielder could be on his way back to the Bridge.
Danny Drinkwater was attacked outside a nightclub earlier this weekend after he tried to make a move towards Scunthorpe defender Kgosi Ntlhe’s girlfriend while being in an intoxicated state. And as per reports, the England international was beaten up badly outside the club by six thugs leaving him with cuts, bruises and ankle ligament damage.
A source told The Sun(as reported by The Mirror): “At one point he was curled up in a ball on the ground, as they repeatedly jumped up and down on his ankle and shouting, ‘Break his legs’.
“They knew he was a Premier League star and it was his livelihood. There was blood everywhere, and it was all incredibly nasty.
“Danny is absolutely mortified now and realises he can no longer put himself in a position where these incidents happen, regardless of who is at fault.”
And now if reports are to be believed then Danny Drinkwater will be meeting Burnley manager Sean Dyche and he might ask to be released from his loan deal so that he could head back to London.
Even though these are just initial rumours but looking at the injuries the midfielder has suffered it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he chose to cut his loan spell short and head back to Chelsea.
Up until this point, Burnley have not made any official comments regarding this matter and it looks like Chelsea too are refusing to get involved in this whole mess.
According to Telegraph reporter Matt Law, the Blues have left Burnley to resolve the situation.
It is still unclear as to what Burnley will decide but as per Sky Sports, it is highly unlikely that Dyche would agree to send Danny Drinkwater back to Chelsea.
While a ban would have been one way to go about it but reports suggest the ligament damage he suffered during the attack will keep him sidelined for almost a month.
This now means that fining Danny Drinkwater for the whole incident is the only way for Burnley to resolve this whole fiasco.
