Man United receive a major boost before they face Liverpool but can they overcome their own problems first?

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace and in that same match, forward Darwin Nunez picked up a red card for a silly head butt.

The summer signing threw his head into Joachim Andersen’s face during the second half and this incident was enough for the referee to show a direct red.

This suspension is on the grounds of violent conduct which means Darwin Nunez is suspended for three domestic matches and will not be available for selection for the Man United tie.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Nunez needs to sort his head out in such situations and that he is going to talk to him about this issue.

“He knows that now himself [that he made a mistake] and I will talk to him,” the manager said(h/t Fotmob). “It doesn’t make too much sense that I speak about it in public.

“It is absolutely not the reaction you want to see. Centre halves in the Premier League will do that to him, he’s a handful himself and yeah, that’s not the reaction.”

Will Darwin Nunez be a big miss for Liverpool?

Liverpool take on Manchester United next Monday and after Nunez’s sending-off, Jurgen Klopp will have to do some thinking in terms of his team selection.

Darwin Nunez is suspended for this game while Diogo Jota is out injured and is not going to be fit in time for this tie.

Now, all eyes will be on Roberto Firmino who is recovering from an injury and he even missed the Palace game. Klopp has hinted that he will be fit for the trip to Old Trafford which is a good sign but if Firmino is not available then it’s a massive headache for the manager.

If Bobby, Jota and Darwin Nunez are all missing then the Liverpool boss will have to rely on a false nine system and this will be particularly difficult to enforce since Sadio Mane is no longer at the club.

Can Man United make the absence of Darwin Nunez count?

Man United have been given a massive boost before this game because players like Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire will breathe a lot easy with the 6 ft 1 inch Nunez not around. The players will need to make this one count because, without a proper ariel threat, Liverpool are surely going to make some tweaks in their style of play.

However, United looked all over the place against Brentford so Erik ten Hag needs to sort out his own issues if he wants even a point from Monday’s game.

A 10-man Liverpool almost beat Crystal Palace on Monday night so if Man United cannot up their game then even without Darwin Nunez, this one’s going to be a walk in the park for the Anfield outfit.
