Real Madrid receive a dual injury boost which is really bad news for Man City

Real Madrid take on Manchester City in the Champions League and David Alaba, up until now, was a doubt for the 1st leg.

The central defender picked up an injury against Osasuna last week and he had to be taken off at halftime. Immediately, he was a doubt for Tuesday’s game despite Carlo Ancelotti admitting that he was taken off just as a precaution.

Ancelotti said, after the Osasuna match: “We are optimistic with [David] Alaba. He had a strain, we took him off as a precaution.”

Over the weekend, the Spanish media were reporting that David Alaba might not be fit in time for the Man City tie but now, in a major boost, the centre-back has reported back to the training pitch.

On Monday, he took part in training and as per the latest updates, David Alaba will be available for selection for the 1st leg at the Etihad Stadium.

This is a big boost for the Real Madrid manager since Eder Militao will also return from suspension so the pair will be able to start in central defence. Without Alaba, Nacho would have had to start alongside Militao and this pair wouldn’t have been enough to stop Manchester City.

Casemiro is another player who is recovering from an injury but he too will be back to full fitness by Tuesday.

The midfielder also trained on Monday but unlike Alaba, he trained without the ball. The coaching staff are confident that Casemiro will also be available for selection which is really important for Ancelotti because the midfield is Real Madrid’s biggest asset.

Casemiro needs to be in the side because Man City will be playing with a false nine which means players like De Bruyne and Foden will look to operate in the hole between Madrid’s defence and midfield so the Brazilian will have the responsibility to stop them.

David Alaba and Casemiro are absolutely integral to everything that Real Madrid does and if they are fully fit then Manchester City will be in for a tough ride. Pep Guardiola will likely miss Kyle Walker and John Stones while Joao Cancelo will also be absent due to suspension.
