Manchester United drew their previous home game vs Chelsea 1-1 and David De Gea has once again become the centre of all the debate.

The Spaniard instead of deflecting Rudiger’s long-range effort wide chose to push it into the path of Marcos Alonso who then had a simple tap in.

This goal came when Man United were leading the match 1-0 and were easily the better side during the match.

The howler from David De Gea helped Chelsea get back into the game and come out of Old Trafford with a point meaning their top-four hopes are still alive.

And speaking after the match, Ryan Mason has claimed that David De Gea is currently running low on confidence and should be dropped for the next game.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s a mental thing for me. I think he had a really, really poor World Cup with Spain as well and it has carried on into this season.

“There has always been speculation about his future but now we are seeing someone who’s confidence is shattered.

“A year ago there was talk of him being one of the best ‘keepers in the world.

“You look at him now and he is doing well to keep his place at United.

“I know he has done well over the last five or six seasons and done well on a consistent basis but when you are conceding goals like that and costing your team then there is a shout for taking him out of the firing line and putting Romero in.

“He is a capable ‘keeper and De Gea’s confidence is gone.”

Solskjaer though seems to have full faith in David De Gea and it looks like the Spaniard will be in front of goal for the remainder of the Premier League season.

When asked if De Gea should have been dropped vs Chelsea, Solskjaer told the BBC(as reported): “No. David has been a fantastic keeper at this club, his reaction after City was good and I was confident in him. He knows he could do better with their goal but it’s one of those things again.

“We did the same against City and started well but today we never found our rhythm again. We needed the tempo to be higher, with a higher intensity but we never managed to get that.”
