RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano is one of the most talked-about defenders in European football right now and it looks like he’s heading to the Premier League next season.

Manchester United and Arsenal have been heavily associated with the 21-year-old but as per the Express, it’s the North London clubs who have beaten a host of other suitors and are now leading the race to sign him.

The report quotes Tuttosport: “Arsenal have reportedly won the battle to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig with a fee already being agreed. The 21-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects due to his performances at the back for Leipzig.

“According to Tuttosport, the Gunners have ‘snatched an agreement’ to sign Upamecano ahead of the summer transfer window.

“The report claims AC Milan were the most keen on rivalling Arsenal for a move but the Premier League outfit have come out on top.

“Leipzig have now reportedly told the Serie A side that Arsenal have won the race for his signature, who’s contract is set to expire in 2021.”

Dayot Upamecano to Arsenal?

It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta is looking to add a new central defender to his ranks this summer and if Dayot Upamecano was to arrive then he will be the perfect partner to someone like William Saliba.

But, at the same time, this deal will be a major blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who’s also keen to sign the Frenchman.

The Man United boss has been looking at Dayot as the long-term partner to Harry Maguire but if he’s on his way to the Emirates then Solskjaer will have to adjust with Victor Lindelof for yet another season.

One major problem for the North London side will be the fact that Dayot Upamecano has a €60 million release clause on his current deal which could be a big of an issue. But the pundits are hopeful that Arsenal will be able to bring this fee down since the 21-year-old is set to be a free agent next summer.
