Dean Henderson or David De Gea Man United

Man United and Brighton face each other this weekend in the Premier League and United’s starting line-up for this game could decide the futures of both David De Gea as well as Dean Henderson.

De Gea was recently given a break so he could return to Spain for the birth of his first child and Dean Henderson has taken this opportunity with open arms, featuring in six games across all competitions. And even when the Spaniard had returned, Ole chose to hand over the No 1 duties to Henderson.

And so many pundits believe that whichever keeper is selected in the starting line-up vs the Seagulls is going to be the No 1 at Man United next season. But when Ole was asked this same question, the manager made it clear that his focus is currently on the upcoming game and then on finishing the rest of the season strongly.

Solskjaer said in his press conference: “You know, I have the great option of two great goalkeepers. It’s a pleasure to have them here. We got, hopefully, nine plus five games to go. We want to go all the way in the Europa League as well. I’m sure you’ll see both of them playing in goal for us.

“I understand the question and the narrative in the media. Where there’s tension or where there can be potential tension or controversy, that’s where everyone wants to hear a comment from me.

“What I can say, as I’ve said so many times, I’ve got great options playing the two of them. They’re top keepers but, of course, both of them want to play as much as possible and that will be decided on merit. We have to think about who’s going to give us a win on any given day.

“The two keepers will be probably needed in these nine plus hopefully five more games. They both know that we value them very highly.

“It’s a difficult decision to leave one of them out. It’s easy to give them the nod, the difficult one is to leave one out but it’s a good decision to make, so you’ll probably see both of them.”

Dean Henderson might have had a bad outing vs Leicester City in the FA Cup where he went on to concede three goals. But apart from that, his record in this recent stint has been pretty good.

David De Gea’s influence in the side has been on a steady decline and no matter what Solskjaer says, but whoever gets to feature infront of goal vs Brighton this weekend is sure to be the first-choice keeper at the club next season.

There are chances that Ole will stick with the academy graduate since he’s done nothing wrong in the past couple of weeks but this decision will also mean that Man United are sure to put De Gea up for sale during the summer transfer window.
