England lose another player to injury as they prepare for the Scotland game: Who’s coming in?

Dean Henderson

England take on Scotland in their second group game on Friday but before that, they have lost goalkeeper Dean Henderson to a hip injury, as confirmed by the FA.

The Manchester United shot-stopper had worked really hard throughout the 2020-21 season and he finally became the first-choice keeper under Ole during the second half of the campaign. But now this injury means his England dream has been cut short and he will now be replaced by Aaron Ramsdale.

The FA said in a statement, as quoted by ITV: “Aaron Ramsdale has replaced Dean Henderson in England’s UEFA EURO 2020 squad.

“Henderson withdraws with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the tournament.

“Under UEFA regulations, squads are permitted to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage. The Manchester United goalkeeper will now return to his club for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021/22 season.”

Aaron Ramsdale also had a good-enough season with Sheffield United playing in 38 Premier League games for the Blades. And while he was obviously happy for the England call-up, the 23-year-old also sympathized with Dean Henderson for his untimely injury.

He posted a message on Instagram where he said: “While I’m delighted to be joining back up with England, my immediate thoughts are with Deano as I know how much it meant to him to be involved.

“I have now been given the honour and to be involved in a major tournament is what dreams are made of. This is a special moment for me and my family.”

Dean Henderson was part of the three-man goalkeeper bucket in the England squad but now Aaron Ramsdale is going to replace the Manchester United man.

Henderson had previously played one game for England but Ramsdale is still uncapped. While he will be hoping to get some game time at the European Championship but with Jordan Pickford in the squad, the 23-year-old will just be there to fill up the numbers.
