Declan Rice chose to remain with West Ham United this season but according to Danny Mills, the Hammers are not expected to hold onto him for much longer.

Clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea had tried to sign him during the summer transfer window but David Moyes was reluctant at selling him, primarily because West Ham are playing in Europe this campaign.

Danny Mills though believes the London side will not be able to keep his services for too long since Declan Rice will obviously want to scale up the professional ladder at some point in his career.

Mills told Football Insider: “These players have stayed loyal for so long.

“But, at some point, when you’re talking about doubling their wages, possibly even more, challenging for league titles, challenging for trophies, playing in the Champions League it’s huge, absolutely huge.

“Why wouldn’t you start looking at those sorts of things? You only have a certain life span as a footballer.

“You get to the point where you think ‘It’s now or never’ and if you don’t take that opportunity it may never come around again.”

Will Declan Rice leave West Ham United next summer?

According to reports, Declan Rice currently earns around £62,000-a-week at West Ham and to be honest, these wages are peanuts for clubs like Man United and Chelsea.

Both the interested clubs can very easily double these wages and given the added incentive of Champions League football, there’s every chance that Rice could hand in a transfer request at the end of the season.

There have already been rumours that the midfielder has turned down two new contract offers because he wishes to leave and if he does not sign a new deal soon enough then the Hammers will be running the risk of losing him for free.

If that were to be the case then David Moyes would be much better off cashing in on him next summer and bagging around £80-90 million from his sale. Both Chelsea and Man United are capable of paying such an amount so West Ham will not have to bargain for too long either.
