Manchester United still hold a substantial interest in signing West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice at the end of the current season, as per ESPN.
United exhausted their transfer budget this summer on some key reinforcements but they have in no way pulled the plug in the transfer race for the England international.
The report claims: “Manchester United remain keen on West Ham United’s Declan Rice despite deciding against investing in a midfielder this summer, sources have told ESPN.
“Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward were aware of the clamour among supporters to sign a new midfielder during the transfer window, but sources have told ESPN that a winger and centre-back were identified as the club’s primary targets.
“Sources have told ESPN that a striker and a midfielder are on the list ahead of next summer with England international Rice among a number of options that will be narrowed down over the course of the next 12 months.”
Declan Rice to Man United or Chelsea?
Man United are building a really strong squad and if they can perform well this season then Declan Rice will be really tempted to join them next time around.
But we are sure rivals Chelsea will have a say in this.
The Blues have been trying to sign Declan Rice for the longest time but they backed off this summer due to the massive transfer price.
Tuchel though has not given up the chase and like Manchester United, the Blues are also going to go back for Rice next summer.
Both teams have money to spare so a lot will depend on how they perform during the 2021/22 season. If Manchester United can secure a major silverware this season then they can definitely challenge the Blues.
Also, at Stamford Bridge, Declan Rice will have a lot more competition as compared to Man United.
