Antoine Griezmann to Chelsea?

France played out their first Group C encounter against Australia and Didier Deschamps’ men had to sweat it out in order to get all the three points.

France took the lead thanks to an Antoine Griezmann penalty just before the hour mark which was later cancelled out by Jedinak after Australia were themselves awarded a penalty courtesy of a Samuel Umtiti handball.

But it was Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba who scored the winning goal of the match for France in the 80th minute.

Two out of three goals in the match were heavily reliant on technology with the Pogba goal being given thanks to the goal line technology while Griezmann’s goal from the penalty spot was awarded after the referee consulted the VAR.

At first, referee Andres Cunha did not award the penalty but after watching the replays he decided to foul Australia’s Joshua Risdon and award the spot kick.

After the match, former Man United player Phil Neville who is currently a pundit on BBC was asked about his opinions on the VAR. And anyone who follows the current English women’s national team coach will know that Neville has been highly critical of the new technology.

And just when Phil was about to go on yet another rant, BBC abruptly cut the feed.

Now, this might have been due to a technical glitch but coincidently this took place just when BBC were about to deliver his opinions on the VAR.

Now the fans seem to have connected the dots have come to the conclusion the BBC does not want to spread any negativity about the new technology which up until now has been working pretty well.

FIFA have admitted that VAR is far from full proof but they have tried their best in order to rectify all the mistakes that have cropped up due to the 18-month trial period. And in all fairness, Phil Neville are only a handful of people left who are still highly critical of VAR.
