Harry Maguire scored for Manchester United on Monday at Stamford Bridge but the defender should have been shown a red card for kicking out at Michy Batshuayi.

It was another VAR day in the Premier League as the technology ruled out two Chelsea goals but failed to hand Harry Maguire a red card despite most people claiming the England international kicked out with malicious intent.

And speaking about this issue, the Chelsea manager has shown his discontent quite clearly.

‘Maguire should have been sent off,’ Lampard said. ‘That’s clear, and that obviously changes the game. It’s just a wrong decision – everyone I’ve spoken to has said the same.

‘Which I suppose is harder to take with the presence of VAR. Decisions like that are crucial. That’s a major part of what VAR was brought in for: a second viewing, different angles.

‘I don’t get why they aren’t looking at the monitor. It should be used.’

And not only Frank Lampard even pundit Roy Keane admitted after the match that Harry Maguire was lucky to remain on the pitch since the incident clearly deserved a red card.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane told Sky Sports via Metro: ‘He’s very lucky. A very lucky boy.

‘Maguire, maybe because it’s his personality, he seems like kind of a calm lad, but he definitely kicks out. Lucky, lucky boy’

The Verdict on Harry Maguire that really matters:

While many people have come out to defend Harry Maguire claiming the defender had only raised his leg in order to stop Batshuayi from falling on him but former referee Mark Clattenburg clearly feels the Man United man should have received his marching orders after the incident.

“On first viewing, I wanted to support Maguire, thinking maybe he had caught the Chelsea striker in his follow through after challenging for the ball,” the ex-referee wrote.

“But replays showed the United defender made a clear second movement towards Batshuayi which he could have avoided. He made a stamping motion into Batshuayi’s groin and should have seen red.

“VAR looked at this but did not deem it a clear error by referee Anthony Taylor, and this is where the inconsistencies lie.

“Let’s not forget Taylor was the man in the middle when Tottenham’s Son Heung-min made a similar foul on Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger in December.

“Taylor missed the challenge by Maguire, but had he gone to his pitch-side monitor, I’m sure he would have sent him off.”
