According to a report by Give Me Sport, Spanish giants Real Madrid are interested in signing Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot.
Diogo Dalot has been with Manchester United since joining them from Porto in 2018 and after a tough couple of seasons, the right-back has finally found his feat in the first-team. This season, Dalot is the preferred right-back for Manchester United but now that the club has signed Noussair Mazraoui, Real Madrid feel they will be able to lure Diogo Dalot out of Old Trafford.
Madrid’s need for a new right-back is an open secret because for most of the summer, they have been linked with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and now they are keen on signing Diogo Dalot. Dani Carvajal has been a top servant for the Los Blancos but his contract expires in 2025 so Carlo Ancelotti will need a top-class replacement very soon.
Trent or Diogo Dalot: Who can replace Carvajal?
The way Real Madrid play Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold will be the ideal fit at right-back but while the England international is great going forward, he is equally bad in defensive positions.
Trent has played 310 senior games for Liverpool and he’s already made 100 goal contributions for the Anfield outfit. However, he is really poor when defending one-on-one situations and the problem has been such an eyesore that Klopp has had to use him in central midfield a couple of times.
On the other hand, Diogo Dalot might have only 16 goal contributions in 157 appearances for Manchester United but the Portugal international is a much more complete full-back.
Ideally, TAA will be a finer choice for Ancelotti because the La Liga is not so defence-focused but Madrid might have to wait until the next year to be able to land the English international which is probably why they are trying to go after Diogo Dalot.
Will Man United be ready to sell him to Real Madrid?
Manchester United will be bringing in Noussair Mazraoui in the next couple of days who is going to be a direct competition for Diogo Dalot but there’s simply no way Erik ten Hag will be ready to sell the Portugal international.
With Mazraoui coming in, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will now be sold leaving the United manager with only two right-backs. United have been really unlucky with injuries, especially in the defensive areas so Ten Hag will want to keep his defensive department fully stocked up.
Dalot’s current market value is only €35 million but his contract expires in 2028 which is why Man United are in no hurry to cash in on him.
Real Madrid are definitely going to test the waters with Diogo Dalot but they have a much better chance of landing Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer next summer(if he does not agree to a new contract with Liverpool).
