East Bengal triumph over defending champions

East Bengal faced defending champions Bengaluru FC at the Barasat Stadium in front of a home an enthralling home crowd of over 15000. And was followed was an absolute cracker of a football match.

First Half:

East Bengal looked totally rattled and unorganized in the first 20 minutes of the match. And it looked as if Bengaluru were in for a regulation win in this match. And before the East Bengal nerves could settle down, C K Vineeth but the away team in front in the 23rd minute courtesy of a well grounded shot with his left feet.

But East Bengal quickly got themselves back together. And equalized in the 28th minute after defender Ivan Bukenya but the ball into the net courtesy of a neatly worked free-kick. The first half saw another major incident. Sunil Chetri and Mehtab Hussain were both furnished yellow cards by the referee after they had a heated incident. And both the teams went into the first half with one goal a piece.

Second Half:

East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan brought in Ex Bengaluru FC striker Robin Singh into the match after halftime. Nikhil Poojari got to great chances to score for East Bengal but Amrinder stopped him from scoring both the times.

Robin Singh was proving to be quite a handful for the away side.  He belted a 30 yard shot towards the goal only to be denied by the woodwork. But is was Robin Singh who eventually got the second crucial goal for the Red and Gold As he capitalized on a silly error from the Bengaluru defense.

The win turns out to be a very crucial one for the Kolkata team as it takes them to the second position in the League. Bengaluru FC on the other hand, drop down to the fourth spot after Aizawl FC managed to beat Mumbai FC in their clash.

The win if a big boost for Trevor Morgan’s team as they are breathing down the neck of their arch rivals, Mohun Bagan. And on the other hand, Bengaluru FC will try to buckle up and win all their remaining fixtures to avoid another mishap.
