East Bengal register first win in the Federation Cup

East Bengal picked up their first win of the Federation Cup campaign as they defeated Chennai City FC.

East Bengal won the match 2-0 and both the goals were scored by Robin Singh. Singh was part of the first eleven as East Bengal decided to drop Nikhil Poojary from the starting line-up. And it was the Ex-Bengaluru FC striker who scored a brace to give the Red and Gold three points.

The first goal came due to a defensive error. In the 45th minute, Chennai’s Dharmaraj Ravanan made a lousy clearance and it was Willis Plaza who pounced on the loose ball. Plaza then neatly set up Robin Singh. And the striker tucked the ball into the back of the net with a mere toe poke.

The second goal for the Kolkata Giants came in the 75th minute of the match and this was also due to a defensive error from Chennai. East Bengal’s Cavin Lobo took a free kick and it was Ravanan again who was at fault. He handled the ball in the box. And the referee had no other option but to award a penalty. Robin Singh stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake whatsoever.

The Red and Gold now have four points from their two matches in Group A and they face Aizawl Fc in their next group stage match.
