Premier League side Arsenal are set to battle Borussia Dortmund to the signing of Real Madrid misfit Eden Hazard as per Diario AS.

Madrid will look to offload Hazard during the summer and the Los Blancos are ready to accept a loan offer for the 22/23 season. Arsenal are supposedly keen to bring him on board on a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of it. Youngsters like Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe are currently playing on the left flank for Arsenal so it makes sense Arteta is so keen to sign an experienced left-winger for the upcoming season.

Up until now, Arsenal were said to be the only major club who were interested in the 31-year-old but it looks like Dortmund have also registered an interest in him.

3 reasons why Arsenal should avoid signing the ex-Chelsea star:

When Eden Hazard was with Chelsea, the winger was easily one of the best forwards in world football but his career has gone down a spiral ever since he moved to Real Madrid.

The first and obvious reason why Arsenal should avoid signing the 31-year-old is that in the previous few seasons he has spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch. Even recently, he has been ruled out for the rest of the season after he had to undergo surgery on his right fibula.

Right now, he cannot even string together a series of starts so Arsenal will definitely need to stay away.

Secondly, his form, owing to all these injuries has also been a major issue because this season he has not scored even a single goal in his 17 La Liga appearances.

He had played 352 games for Chelsea over seven years and had scored 110 goals but with Madrid, he’s managed only six goals in 65 appearances. Arsenal want a player who can score and assist at will but unfortunately, Eden Hazard is nowhere close to the player he was with Chelsea.

Third and perhaps most importantly, Eden Hazard will have massive wage demands and he could very easily become the highest-paid player at Arsenal. While on loan Real Madrid will obviously share this salary burden but when he becomes a permanent Arsenal player, the Gunners will have a very tough time managing their wage bills. It makes no sense to pay an injury-prone player so much money, especially when Mikel Arteta has been slowly and steadily getting rid of the deadwood.
