Ederson is the second most expensive keeper

Man City have officially announced that they have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ederson Moraes from Benfica for a fee of 40 million Euros.

With the move, the 23-year-old Brazilian shot-stopper now becomes the second most expensive keeper in the world after Gigi Buffon, who joined Juventus from Parma for 53 million Euros. Ederson played two seasons for the Portuguese champions having joined the club in 2015. In the first season though, he was mainly a second choice keeper behind international teammate Julio Ceasar.

But in his second season, he became a regular with the first team and made 37 appearances for Benfica. He appeared 27 times in the league last season and managed to keep 17 clean sheets. No wonder Pep Guardiola has agreed to pay such a hefty amount for the Brazilian.

But what is intriguing to note is the fact that Ederson had a release clause of 45 million euros in his contract. And so it clearly evident that Man City did not try and negotiate too much about the price.

Talking to the Man City website, Ederson said, “I like everything about Manchester City, this is a great club, the league they have here in England and they have amazing fans and they play splendid football.”

“Manchester City has an amazing squad. I think they have managed to have a good season. Next season we will have to be focused to achieve the goals of winning trophies.”
