Man United forward Edinson Cavani scored one goal during the side’s 9-0 win over Southampton in midweek but was taken off during half-time, to be replaced by Anthony Martial.

Everyone thought the manager wanted to rotate his players since they were already 4-0 up at half-time but talking after the game, Solskjaer revealed that Edinson Cavani had picked up a slight knock during a tackle on the edge of the penalty box.

“Edinson got a bad tackle on his ankle so he had to come off,” Solskjaer said after the match, as reported by Manutd.com.

“He probably would have loved to be out there scoring goals. But there was no point in taking any risks.

“Hopefully, it won’t swell up too much.”

This will surely be a cause of concern for the Man United manager since his side take on Everton in the Premier League this weekend and the absence of the South American will be a significant blow.

Ole does have the option of using Martial up front but the Frenchman has not been too effective against the bigger sides this season and right now, he’s not oozing confidence.

Edinson Cavani, on the other hand, has scored five goals in 15 Premier League games for Man United so far this season and based on recent form, the 33-year-old is a guaranteed starter against Everton – if he’s fully fit.

Hopefully, the injury is not too serious and Cavani is back to full training in the next few days but the last thing the manager would want is to risk him on the pitch right before they get back into the Europa League later this month.
