Emerson Chelsea
Emerson playing for Chelsea

Chelsea take on Liverpool in the English Premier League this weekend at Stamford Bridge and Lampard could see the return a few of his key players.

Full-back Emerson missed Chelsea’s last two matches against Wolves and Valencia after picking up a thigh strain during the international break with Italy.

But now the 25-year-old has returned back to training on Thursday and multiple reports have claimed the left-back will return back to the first XI on Sunday.

If Emerson does make a comeback to starting line-up then Marcos Alonso would drop back to the bench vs Liverpool.

N’Golo Kante has also been recovering from an ankle injury and the World Cup winner has missed Chelsea’s last four games. But the midfielder like Emerson returned back to full training earlier this week which means he should be named in the first XI alongside Jorginho.

The return of Kante will most certainly be a huge boost for Lampard since the Frenchman has been a mainstay in the Blues midfield ever since he joined the club from Leicester City.

Also if Kante does start in midfield then it would be the perfect excuse to drop Ross Barkley to the bench especially after his missed penalty vs Valencia on Tuesday.

While these two players(N’Golo Kante and Emerson) should be fit enough to be named in the matchday squad vs Liverpool but Mason Mount is likely to miss the match.

Mount suffered a nasty tackle during Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Valencia and initial reports have claimed that the youngster did not suffer a torn ligament which was a good sign.

Now though, the attacking midfielder did not feature in training on Thursday which has led to speculations that he will be absent from Sunday’s clash.

Mason Mount has been one of the star performers for Chelsea this season and his absence will surely be a big blow to Lampard’s plans but the manager has the perfect replacement in the form of Christian Pulisic.
