Emerson playing for Chelsea

Chelsea left-back Emerson warmed the benches for the Blues during the 2020-21 season but he’s suddenly in high demand after the European Championship.

Emerson hardly got any game time under Thomas Tuchel last season so it was quite evident he will leave in the summer. And if things pan out accordingly then the left-back could join return to the Serie A and join Napoli.

Sports Lens cite Calciomercato: “Napoli are eager to bring in Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

“The club’s main dilemma for years has been the left-back position. Faouzi Ghoulam’s injury created an issue for incoming managers after Carlo Ancelotti.

“There are two names high on Napoli’s list – Mathias Olivera and Emerson Palmieri – have different profiles for age, experience and cost.”

Will Chelsea let Emerson leave after EURO success?

Ben Chilwell is the first-choice left-back for Chelsea right now and the manager also has Marcos Alonso as a backup. So, theoretically Chelsea do not have any need for Emerson.

Some people have argued that Thomas Tuchel should give one more chance to the Italian after his successful Euro campaign but we think the Blues will be act smart and use this as an opportunity to bump up Emerson’s market value.

Right now Emerson is valued at £12.6 million and it will not be a big surprise if Napoli are asked to pay around £18-20 million.

The 26-year-old has only one more year left on his current deal so obviously Chelsea cannot quote a really absurd price but £20-odd million should not be a big problem for a club like Napoli.

Last season, Emerson played in 15 games for Chelsea across all competitions and despite his good performances in the European Championship, he is not going to climb up the pecking order.
