Arsenal doing all they can to hold onto this Aston Villa transfer target: Can they fend off the interest?

Aston Villa are said to be monitoring the situation of Emile Smith Rowe at Arsenal and as per last week’s updates, there’s a chance they could make a move for him.

Smith Rowe has been rising sharply at Arsenal over the past two seasons and according to the transfer gossips in The Telegraph, Villa are keen to bring the England U21 international on board.

The report claims: “Aston Villa hold an interest in Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe while his new deal at the Emirates Stadium is yet to be sealed.

“After breaking into the first team, his club want him tied to a long-term deal but that has not stopped other clubs putting him on their wanted lists.

“Villa have been looking for a creative midfielder in Smith-Rowe’s mould and have also considered Norwich’s Emi Buendia.”

This news was not met with a lot of positivity from the Arsenal fans since Emile Smith Rowe is one of their club’s brightest young talents and the last thing they will want is for their clubs to sell him to a rival Premier League side.

But the fans can now rest a bit easy since according to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are already in talks with the youngster over the signing of a new deal.

He said on Twitter: “Emile Smith-Rowe is ready to sign a new contract with Arsenal until June 2026 after negotiations started in March.

“Just waiting last details to be completed – then it’ll be done.”

Emile Smith Rowe has played in 20 Premier League games during the 2020-21 season and his current deal expires in the summer of 2023.

Once the deal is signed, Aston Villa will have no way of signing him and we also think, the Villa Park outfit were never really serious about signing the 20-year-old. They were just testing the waters to see if Arsenal will agree to hold talks or not.
