England team news vs Czech Republic: Harry Kane to be put on the bench?

England were held to a 0-0 draw by Scotland on Friday night in the European Championship meaning the Three Lions are yet to secure a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.

England are currently second in the group and next up, they take on the Czech Republic on Tuesday, the team who are sitting at the top of the table in Group D.

Southgate’s side have kept a clean sheet in their last 5 matches in the Euros but this week, they will need to score goals if they want to move onto the knockout stages. England looked really winded and boring against Scotland and if they cannot improve their performance in midweek then we don’t think they will be good enough to qualify.

The manager has to make some really bold and tough selection calls going into this match since a number of his first-team regulars looked really out of sorts on Friday night and it’s time for Gareth Southgate to move out of the ‘superstars are automatic starters’ zone and focus on selecting players based purely on their performances.

Czech Republic have made a superb start to Euro 2020 but a draw will be good enough for both these sides to move onto the next round. So it will not be a major surprise if both these sides play out a super tactical and cagey game.

England team news vs Czech Republic:

Jordan Pickford will remain in goal but the back line in front of him should see a few changes now that Harry Maguire is back to full fitness. Tyrone Mings was pretty average on Friday and he should make way for Maguire in the upcoming game.

Ben Chilwell and Kyle Walker will be pushing for a place in the starting line-up but we think the manager is once again going to rely on Luke Shaw and Reece James as his two full-backs.

After a superb first game, Kalvin Phillips was pretty mediocre against Scotland and maybe it’s time Southgate brings Jordan Henderson back into the side. Bellingham is also another option who can be used alongside Declan Rice.

Mason Mount was the standout performer on Friday and he is a guaranteed starter in midweek as well. But if the manager is planning to bring in Jack Grealish then Mount will have to operate on one of the wings.

Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling had both under-performed against Scotland and we expect both of them to drop to the bench. Marcus Rashford is likely to come into the side but some pundits think Jadon Sancho should be called into the starting line-up.

Harry Kane has now had two poor outings for England and if logic prevails then he should be moved to the bench and Dominic Calvert-Lewin should start. But we doubt if the England boss will have the courage to bench his captain.
