England team news vs Poland: Kalvin Phillips & Mount out of the first XI?

Wembley Stadium Premier League

England have won both their games during the ongoing international break and they will be looking to make it a clean sweep when they face Poland in the World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.

The Three Lions beat San Marino 5-0 and then went on to win 2-0 against Albania. But Poland are without a doubt the strongest opponents from this round of fixtures so we are likely to see Gareth Southgate make a few changes to his starting line-up in midweek.

The manager used a conventional 4-3-3 formation vs Albania but given the strength that Poland posses, Southgate is expected to revert back to a three-man backline.

Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka are ruled out from this game with injuries but apart from that England do not have too many major injury concerns. Some players have a few niggles here and there but Gareth Southgate has a deep enough squad to be calm and composed about selecting his starting line-up.

England team news vs Poland:

Nick Pope will remain in goal for this one but the backline in front of him is likely to alter as the manager opts for a three-man defensive line.

Stones and Maguire will keep their place from the Albania game and Walker, who played at right-back during the weekend will play as the third centre-back.

Luke Shaw is expected to be rested with Ben Chilwell coming back into the side as the left wing-back. The right-hand side role is going to be a tussle between Reece James and Kieran Trippier.

Kalvin Phillips played in central midfield vs Albania but the Leeds man will make way for Ward-Prowse on Wednesday. Declan Rice will reprise his role.

Jesse Lingard came off the bench during the weekend and he got to play for 10 odd minutes vs Albania. While some experts believe the Man United man could get a chance to start on Wednesday but we don’t think Southgate will tinker with his line-up too much.

Mason Mount missed Tuesday’s training session as he continued his recovery in the gym and according to Sky Sports, the Chelsea man is a doubt for the Poland game due to an injury.

Sky Sports are claiming: “Mason Mount is an injury doubt for Wednesday’s World Cup Qualifier against Poland after missing England training on Tuesday.

“The Chelsea midfielder undertook recovery work in the gym, while the rest of the 24-man squad trained ahead of the game at Wembley.”

Mason Mount has been the star player for England over the past two games and if he is absent then it will undoubtedly be a big blow for Gareth Southgate. If he is fit then Mount will be keeping Phil Foden on the bench.

But if he cannot recover in time then the Man City youngster has the chance to start in the final third alongside Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.
