Despite being pinned down for most of the match, England managed to salvage a draw against Germany and next up, they will face Italy in the Nations League.

This is a repeat of the Euro 2020 final but since that game, Italy have seen some shocking results including the failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. However, England have had a much steady ride, losing just one match since that ill-fated final.

The draw against Germany was a much-needed positive result for the Three Lions but Gareth Southgate will have to urge his players to play a better brand of football. Italy might have been having a mixed set of results but the Azzurri are unbeaten in their previous 15 away games.

Southgate rotated his starting line up against Germany and he is expected to do the same on Saturday as well. The manager has several injury doubts so he will have to be very careful with whom he selects.

Three Lions team news vs Italy:

The manager used a 3-4-3 formation against Hungary but he opted to shift to a 4-3-3 system for the Germany game. While this formation did not help England massively but we hope Southgate will stick with it this weekend as well.

Pickford has been playing for the previous two matches and there’s a chance that Southgate might name Aaron Ramsdale in the starting lineup this weekend.

Both Maguire and John Stones had very poor outings against Germany but they should hold onto their place. However, Reece James is expected to come back into the side as the England manager will hopefully want to rest Kyle Walker.

Kalvin Phillips picked up an injury pretty early on in the 1-1 draw and the Leeds man was replaced by Jude Bellingham, who put in a wonderful shift.

Bellingham deserves another start and there’s also a chance that the England boss will hand a start to Connor Gallagher. Mason Mount had a great game against Germany as well so this is a tight one to call.

Jack Grealish and Jarrod Bowen came off the bench and made vital contributions so we are expecting both of them to be rewarded with starts on Saturday.

Phil Foden has been missing due to COVID but the Manchester City man should be fit to make it into the matchday squad.

England injuries:

James Justin – Ruled out.

Kalvin Phillips – Major doubt.

Fikayo Tomori – Late fitness test.
