England manager Gareth Southgate has finally named the players who are going to replace the ones who have recently withdrawn from the upcoming friendlies.

As many as four players have chosen not to join the current England squad due to various injury issues and this has opened the doors for some players to showcase their talents for the national team.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold both picked up injured in the previous week which is why Gareth Southgate has had to bring in Sam Johnstone and Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell.

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters has also earned an England senior call-up because Reece James hasn’t been allowed to leave by Chelsea.

As per Tuchel, James wants to use this break to work on his fitness because the right-back has just returned from an injury.

Tammy Abraham has revived his career under Jose Mourinho at Roma but he too is going to miss out which is why Villa’s Ollie Watkins has earned a call-up.

Will the new players get starts for England?

Tammy Abraham is in peak form for AS Roma this season and to date, he’s scored 15 goals in 29 Serie A games and if he was available then he surely would have started at least one game.

But there’s no way Ollie Watkins is going to start either of the two matches because Gareth Southgate is now going to rely on players like Harry Kane and Foden to do the job.

The full-back area though is really thin so both Kyle Walker-Peters and Mitchell have a great shot at securing a starting role. With James and TAA gone, Luke Shaw was the only other full-back remaining and since he is a left-back, Walker-Peters should be getting starts on the other side of the defensive line.

As for the Palace defender, he will be in line to start against Ivory Coast next week.

Aaron Ramsdale was set to challenge Jordan Pickford for the No 1 spot but with the Arsenal man missing, Pickford will hold onto his spot.
