Liverpool host Man United in the EPL this weekend at Anfield and it seems like a lot is currently riding on the outcome of this match.

Going into this game, Man United are sitting at the top of the table and if they can come out of Merseyside with a win then they go six points clear at the top. And this will result in all hell breaking loose in the EPL for the remainder of the season, according to pundit Jamie Carragher.

“I actually think it’s a bigger game for Liverpool,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“The onus is more on them. If United got a result there, that’s when the belief would come that they could win the league. I still think people think United may fall away and Liverpool have still got that edge, but if they won at Anfield that would send shockwaves through the Premier League.

“It’s a game where Liverpool need to show they are the champions, they are the better team, get the result and also a performance that puts Manchester United back where they are.

“I don’t think Manchester United have ever really hurt Liverpool with the counter-attack at Anfield, like they have done against Manchester City in the past.

“There is no doubting the devastating effect United could have on the counter, especially with Liverpool’s problems at centre-back and questions over whether Joel Matip will be back there.

“But I don’t think Liverpool will change, if you look at their record at home, they have dominated for the last three years.”

We can understand what Carragher is trying to refer to here since no one really expected Man United to be at the top of the league table after the busy winter schedule had passed.

Every pundit predicted a Liverpool vs Man City title race this time around as well(which it still might be) but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are making sure that the two giants do not rest easy.

If Man United win this key Premier League game on Sunday then they will surely believe that they can win the title by the end of May. And this confidence will not be good for clubs like Man City, Chelsea and even Spurs, who are desperately trying not to fall behind the pack.

Yes, a few loose games down the line can once again change the whole complexion of the title race but going into Sunday’s game it surely looks like Man United are not ready to go down with a proper fight.
