Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is walking a tight rope after the Blues went down 2-0 at the hands of Leicester City in the EPL on Tuesday.

Chelsea have been in a poor run of form in the EPL this season and during the buildup of the game, there had been rumours that Lampard could be shown the door if his side failed to pick up a win at the King Power Stadium.

talkSPORT had said on Tuesday morning: “Chelsea could make the decision to sack Frank Lampard as manager should the Blues be defeated by Leicester on Tuesday night, talkSPORT has been told.

“The pressure has mounted on Lampard over the past few weeks with this dreadful run ongoing, and he is one of the favourites to lose his job in the Premier League sack race.”

And now that the Stamford Bridge outfit have suffered their sixth loss of the 2020-21 league season, the gossip vine is abuzz with the news that Roman Abramovich is making plans to bring in a long-term replacement.

EPL: Who will replace Frank Lampard at Chelsea?

A number of names have been doing the rounds but it looks like former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri’s name is at the top of the wishlist.

Allegri is keen to manage a Premier League side and for that, he has been learning English for a couple of years now so if Frank Lampard is shown the door then the Blues hierarchy will most certainly try and bring Max Allegri on board.

The name of Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann have also popped up during the past couple of weeks but we don’t think Abramovich will be too keen to replace Lampard with the 33-year-old Nagelsmann.

Tuchel could be a more sensible option as he was recently sacked from his job at PSG so trying to make a move for him will not be complicated.

Some rumours have also claimed that Chelsea could try and sign Brendan Rodgers as their next boss but journalist Simon Johnson of The Athletic has made it clear that the Leicester City boss will not be a unanimous choice for the EPL side.

“He’s definitely valued as a coach,” Johnson told talkSPORT.  “And who wouldn’t value him as a coach because of the jobs he’s done at Leicester and Celtic.

“And he made an impression when he was in charge of the [Chelsea] youth and reserve team. But there are a lot of things Brendan has said and done over the years which did not go down too well with the hierarchy.

“I think if Chelsea are going to appoint another manager they might be looking elsewhere. But he’d definitely be lower down on the list.”

The noose is tightening around Lampard’s neck but we don’t think the Chelsea management will be too keen to show him the door. After the loss to Leicester, Chelsea are eighth on the league table having played a game more and their next couple of matches will be the real litmus test for their under-fire manager.

Next up in the EPL, the Blues take on Wolves and then at the start of the next month, they head across London to face Jose Mourinho’s Spurs.
