The EPL teams that have a home game in various European competitions this week might have to play at a neutral venue following the Queen’s death on Thursday.

The league games for this weekend had to be postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday but it was reported that the Champions League and Europa League games will go ahead as scheduled.

“At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” an official statement read.

“To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.”

According to The Irish Sun, the English clubs could play their European fixtures at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin if they can’t do so in England.

England have entered a period of mourning and this has forced the European games into jeopardy which is why the Aviva Stadium has been put on standby as a neutral venue.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City will feature in gameweek two of the Champions League, Arsenal and Manchester United are going to feature in the Europa League while West Ham United will be in the Europa Conference League.

Out of these teams only Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal are the ones who have home games while the others will play away from home.

Man United, Spurs and West Ham United are playing outside of England so they will have no problem completing their respective fixtures.

English clubs are in no obligation to cancel their fixtures during the period of mourning but the authorities still went ahead and postponed all the Premier League games this weekend.

However, according to the latest reports, the EPL sides are not too keen to postpone any more matches due to fears of fixture congestion so they will not shy away from playing at a neutral venue even if they have to.
