According to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, Manchester United are willing to offload defender Eric Bailly for a meagre fee of just £10 million.

The defender had signed a new contract with the club last year, one which will keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2024. However, he’s massively failed to revive his career managing to feature in just four Premier League games last season.

Erik ten Hag has plans to completely revamp the defence and it seems like Eric Bailly will have no place in that. As per the journalist, Man United will allow the centre-back to leave if an interested club is ready to shell out around £8-10 million.

Should the Man United manager give an opportunity to Eric Bailly?

The centre-back has been with Man United since 2016 but he’s never managed to become the first-choice central defender under any manager.

In these previous six years, he’s played only 113 games for the club and more often than not, he finds himself in the treatment room. Eric Bailly has been massively unlucky with constant injury setbacks and this is the primary reason why Ten Hag has decided to sell him off.

Man United already have able defenders in the form of Varane, Maguire and Victor Lindelof plus they are also chasing players like Pau Torres and Timber so it makes no sense to carry a burden like Eric Bailly.

The club had paid around £35 million to Villarreal for the signing of Eric Bailly so in theory, they have agreed to sell the defender at a loss but by sending him out, Man United will be cutting down on a lot of wages.

As per Spotrac, Eric Bailly earns £80,000 per week so it makes perfect sense to get him off the wage bills and redirect those funds elsewhere.

Ligue 1 clubs Marseille and Lyon have been linked with the 28-year-old so a summer exit should not be that difficult.
