The Manchester United hierarchy have been busy searching for their next permanent manager and as per ESPN, Erik ten Hag is set to take charge.

A few weeks ago, the club had announced that they were starting the process of finding an heir to Ralf Rangnick and during this period, they have held meetings with several candidates.

Luis Enrique was also on that list but it was evident pretty early on that the Spaniard will not be coming to Manchester United. Following this news, it was a two-horse race between Erik ten Hag and PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino.

Now, as per ESPN’s Mark Ogden and Rob Dawson, the United team have put their money on the current Ajax manager.

The report reads: “Sources in England and the Netherlands have told ESPN that United have settled on Ten Hag as their new manager and that the Ajax manager is ready to leave the Dutch champions to take charge at Old Trafford at the end of the season.”

On Monday, Wayne Rooney had backed Pochettino for the job because of his prior experience in the Premier League but it looks like football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher have chosen to go with Ten Hag.

Following this initial report, Fabrizio Romano has added that Ralf Rangnick has also approved of the 52-year-old but as of now, there’s no formal agreement.

Erik ten Hag is already making plans for his backroom staff and as per the rumours, he wants to bring in Rene Meulensteen & Steve McClaren to help him ease into English football.

The buzz around the Dutch coach is getting stronger by the hour so we think it’s only a matter of time before Manchester United and Ajax put out their official statements regarding the same.

Obviously, talks can break down in the final stages as well but Ajax have no problem in letting Erik ten Hag leave and even the 52-year-old is eager to join Manchester United so we don’t see much going wrong.
