UEFA have vowed to take strict actions against all the 12 clubs participating in the European Super League and the governing body of football in Europe are trying their best to expel them from the Champions League and the Europa League.

As many as five of the 12 ESL teams are still playing in the two European competitions this season but UEFA wants to throw them out of the door, as a form of punishment. This news has really not been great news for the clubs but Real Madrid chief and ESL chairman Florentino Perez recently came out to make it clear that all the involved European Super Leagues teams and players are well protected.

Perez said in an interview: “Players excluded from International matches or tournaments? That’s not going to happen. I want to assure every football player out there, they cannot stop you from playing with your National team.

“Threats from UEFA president? (Smirks) So be it. Real Madrid will not be banned from the Champions League. I guarantee it 100%, no one can take us out of the Champions League. UEFA has prepared the new format of UCL for 2024. In 2024, we will be dead.

“We’re not UEFA’s property, they can’t govern us. UEFA’s monopoly is over, a new era is coming.”

This has been a big sigh of relief for all the clubs but now in a fresh twist, the English clubs involved in this breakaway tournament could be in trouble with Prime Minister Boris Johnson doing all he can to block the European Super League.

The statement said, as quoted: “The prime minister confirmed the government will not stand by while a small handful of owners create a closed shop.

“He was clear that no action is off the table and the government is exploring every possibility, including legislative options, to ensure these proposals are stopped.”

Up until now, UEFA and FIFA were trying to make things difficult for the participating clubs but Florentino Perez put up a brave face. But now with the British government eager to block the ESL, it will be interesting to see how the Premier League sides protect themselves.

To add to all the drama, Prince William, who also happens to be the president of the UK’s Football Association has also come out to speak against the European Super League.

The tweet was posted on the official Twitter account of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge: “Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community – from the top level to the grassroots – and the values of competition and fairness at its core.

“I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love.”
