According to talkSPORT, Everton are expected to sign out of favour striker Wayne Rooney from Manchester United.

Rooney has fallen down the pecking order under new boss Jose Mourinho. And most of his first team appearances last season were in the form of substitutes. Rooney who is just 31-years-old feels that he still has a couple of years of top football left in him. And he is willing to play those years at some other club.

Wayne Rooney is the all the leading goal scorer for United with 253 goals.

United’s current captain has just 12 months left on his current contract. And it is highly unlikely that the club are going to offer him a new deal. The 31-year-old has found it really difficult to break into the first team under Jose Mourinho last season. And with United chasing the likes of Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku, Rooney’s career at the club looks well and truly over.

Rooney joined Man Utd in 2004 from his boyhood club Everton.

While Mourinho has insisted that his club captain is going nowhere but it looks as if Rooney is all set to return to his boyhood club. Rooney has made it very clear that if he plays for any other club in the Premier League then it only be for Everton.

According to the report, a source close to the Merseyside club has revealed that Rooney is set to return to his childhood club. And it looks as if a move to Everton is ‘almost inevitable’.
