Everton take on Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend and the Merseyside outfit still have an outside chance of making it into the top-four.

The Toffees have a game-in-hand and if they can win that then they go within three points off Chelsea who are currently occupying the final Champions League spot. But for that to happen, manager Carlo Ancelotti has urged his Everton players to show more hunger and ambition on the pitch.

“We are still in the fight and that is really good for us,” said Ancelotti in his press conference.

“We have good momentum and all the players available. The victory against Arsenal was really important… we didn’t have good results in the previous few games, so to win was important for our mentality and motivation.

“When we want to play more attacking football [at home] we need balance, to avoid counter-attacks and opportunities for the opposition team.

“[We need to play with] more ambition, totally agreed, and more focus on the balance of the team.

“We have to be strong and focused and do our best. Every game is vital for everyone.”

Everton somehow managed to pick up a win against Arsenal last weekend but before that, they had lost three and drawn three games across all competitions. And this poor run of form is a big reason why they are currently sitting eight on the league table.

Thankfully all the other teams have also dropped points so if Everton can manage to beat Villa then they have a really strong chance of making a final push for a top-four finish, especially with a game against West Ham United coming up.

Everton have the poorest goal difference amongst all the top-four hopefuls so they will have to ensure maximum points from their remaining games if they want to have any hopes of playing in the Champions League or even the Europa League next season.
