Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign former Spurs player Fernando Llorente as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Inter Milan are eager to sign Lukaku and are reportedly willing to pay £75 million for the striker but right now Man United are holding out for a fee of £80 million.

It is still unclear whether Solskjaer would let Lukaku leave but now that the manager is out in the market looking for a new centre-forward we can safely say that Lukaku is heading to Italy.

As per reports, Man United are planning to make a move for Fernando Llorente who was released by Spurs at the end of the previous season once his contract expired.

Fernando Llorente joined Spurs from Swansea in 2017 and during the past two seasons, the Spaniard has mostly played second fiddle to Harry Kane.

But having said that though, the 34-year-old has also been involved in some important wins for Mauricio Pochettinho’s side.

Di Marzio claims: “Manchester United is on Fernando Llorente. The former Juventus striker, released by Tottenham starting from July 1st, can find a team in England even after August 8th, a deadline set for the British transfer market.

“In this perspective, the interest of the Red Devils is a card that keeps alive the hopes of Inter and Juventus to have Lukaku even after the end of the English market. After Fiorentina and Naples, in fact, here is the club coached by Solskjaer probe Llorente to cover, eventually, the departure of Romelu Lukaku.”

United have also been linked with a move for Mario Mandzukic but that transfer trail has gone cold which is probably why Solskjaer is planning to go after Fernando Llorente.

If the Red Devils go after the former Spurs player then obviously he will play second fiddle to someone like Marcus Rashford. And given that Fernando Llorente is available for free in the transfer market we believe he will be the ideal candidate for a backup striker.

But this would also mean that the Old Trafford outfit will not try and bring in a top-class centre forward to replace Romelu Lukaku this transfer window.
