Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori spent the second half of the 2020-21 season out on loan to AC Milan and the Italian side are really keen to hold onto him on a permanent basis.
The centre-back fell down the pecking order for the Blues last summer which is why he was eventually loaned out to Milan at the start of this year. And during his short span with them, the 23-year-old has really shone.
During the second half of the campaign, the defender played in 17 Serie A for AC Milan and the Italian side are now willing to pay £25 million to hold onto the England international permanently.
The Daily Mail cites Fabrizio Romano saying: “Chelsea are set to bring in £25million by selling defender Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan this summer, according to reports.
“The Italian giants are desperate to convert the young centre back’s successful loan move last season into a permanent deal.
“Tomori shone after arriving in Serie A in the January transfer window, helping Milan to secure a return to the Champions League under manager Stefano Pioli.
“And, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Thomas Tuchel’s transfer kitty will receive a £25m boost if Milan complete a permanent move for Tomori.”
Fikayo Tomori featured in 15 games in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season and he looked all set to play a more vital role for the Blues this time around. But Lampard ultimately chose to bring in Thiago Silva which effectively forced the 23-year-old to warm the benches.
Chelsea are already in the market looking for new defenders meaning they have every plan to sell Fikayo Tomori this summer and since he has three more years left on his current deal, £25 million seems a very good transfer fee.
Tuchel uses a three-man defensive line and apart from Silva, Rudiger and Christensen have more or less cemented their place in the starting line-up. So there’s no way a player like Fikayo Tomori is going to come back and waltz into the side next season.
Hence, the sensible thing for Chelsea to do will be to hand him over to AC Milan in the next few months and pocket the transfer fee.
