Top football clubs are constantly battling amongst each other – both on the pitch as well as off it.

A couple of years back, what only mattered was what a football club did on the pitch but now their online presence is also taken into account.

The big football clubs need to be very precise and careful of what they say on social media and how they interact with the fans.

And according to Liverpool CEO, Peter Moore, the game of football could face stiff competition from something like Fortnite.

Moore became the CEO of Liverpool in 2017 but before that he has held prestigious jobs such as president and COO of Sega of America, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment division and head of video game giant Electronic Arts’ sports division.

And perhaps he is the best to explain why football might be battling with games like Fortnite in the near future.

“Ninety minutes is a long time for a millennial male to sit down on a couch,” he told Arabian Business(as reported).

“When I look at viewing and attendance figures of millennial males, I’m concerned as a CEO of a football club that relies on the next generation of fans coming through,”

“If we don’t build technological prowess as a club we will lose them. There’s so much pressure on time now and only 24 hours in a day… there are only so many hours to play Fortnite.

“We are an industry that needs to harness technology to make sure we don’t miss an entire generation of young people growing up that don’t have that love for football. We need to package content in bites of 60 to 90 seconds to keep their engagement.”

The Liverpool CEO seems to have hit the nail on the head since many feel that football might have hit a saturation point and the game might struggle to pull in younger audiences.

And it looks like the game’s main rivals are things like Fortnite – which one can play sitting at the comfort of their homes.
