Celtic beat Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final and one of the big reasons for the win was their keeper Fraser Forster.

The Bhoys picked up yet another silverware beating their Old Firm rivals 1-0 thanks to a 60th minute strike from Christopher Jullien.

And this victory was even more sweet since just three minutes after going ahead, Celtic went down to 10 men as Frimpong was sent off for tackling Alfredo Morelos inside the box.

The resultant foul was a penalty which could have brought Rangers back into the game but it was Fraser Forster who came to his side’s rescue and kept out the shot, thereby keeping Celtic’s lead intact.

And speaking after the match, Gers manager Steven Gerrard was all praise of the Celtic shot-stopper.

Gerrard told BT Sport: “He was certainly outstanding. I think he had one of the best games of his career today, unfortunately for us, but you have to give credit where it’s due.”

The penalty was not the only shot that the 31-year-old saved during the match as Forster came up with a string of excellent saves which helped keep the Teddy Bears at bay.

During the match, Rangers came up with 16 shots out of which 7 were on target whereas Celtic could only manage one shot on target through which they managed to score.

Fraser Forster was the standout player for the Bhoys during the weekend and it’s safe to say that he was the prime reason why Gerrard failed to pick up his first silverware at the club.

The keeper is on loan from Premier League club Southampton but Neil Lennon has claimed that Celtic would love to keep him at Park Head beyond the summer.

“He’s one of the best goalkeepers around,” said manager Lennon[as reported by the BBC].

“But he’s not our player and then there’s affordability. We need to sit down with him and see what he wants to do. His performance came as no surprise to me because I’ve seen him do it many times before.

“You can see how happy he is to be here and I think he’s gone on record saying he loves it here so we’ll see.”
