Man United travel to London to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and right now the hottest debate is that who will get to start in central midfield on Friday. Fred or Scott McTominay?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally gotten Paul Pogba back to full fitness meaning the Frenchman is a guaranteed starter alongside Bruno Fernandes this Friday vs Mourinho’s men.

Nemanja Matic has done a fine job in holding fort amidst all the injuries but now he’s sure to move down the pecking order and according to Alex Bruce, it will be Fred who will be named in the starting XI.

Bruce told Football Insider: “I’m very excited, I think just before lockdown Manchester United were slowly getting back to where we all expect Man United to be.

“Obviously they’ve got the added influence of Pogba and Bruno Fernandes who will be a really, really good partnership in the centre of the park, that’s for sure.

“It’s going to be interesting to see who he plays, whether it’s going to be McTominay with them or Fred – I’m hearing that he’s going to go with Fred so we’ll have to wait and see how that midfield looks but when you look at them, they’re starting to look like a real strong outfit.

“If they all gel together like they hopefully will do, I think it will be good times ahead.”

Fred has really improved in leaps and bounds this season and finally, he’s looking like the player who can have a long career at Man United. But we have a feeling that Solskjaer will opt to use McTominay in midfield vs Spurs on Friday.

Pogba and Bruno Fernandes will have the license to venture forward and join attacks at every opportunity they get meaning Man United will need someone to sit back and shield their backline.

And Scott McTominay is the perfect man to do this job.

Fred has been great on the ball but his defensive qualities still need a lot of polishing which is why McTominay should get the nod ahead of the Brazilian when Man United take on Spurs.
