Frenkie de Jong Barcelona

Barcelona might end up losing Frenkie de Jong during the summer transfer window since clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester City are interested in signing him.

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, the two European giants are keeping tabs on the midfielder and could make a move for him at the end of the 2021/22 season.

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019 for a staggering fee of €86 million but he took his time to settle down into the club. Right now, he’s one of the mainstays in the Barcelona midfield and his recent performances for club and country seem to have ignited the interest of several clubs.

Will Frenkie de Jong leave FC Barcelona?

Frenkie de Jong is only 24 years old so he has a long career ahead of him. And given how he’s been playing this season, we are sure Barcelona will not want to lose him.

But then, the Catalans are under huge financial duress which is why had to let go of Lionel Messi. And the reports claim they will have to sell further players in order to balance their books.

De Jong’s current deal with the Spanish side expires in 2026 but the club’s financial trouble is something that both Man City and Bayern Munich will be eager to pray upon.

Do Man City or Bayern Munich need Frenkie de Jong?

Bayern Munich’s interest in Frenkie de Jong is not new as they had shown an interest in him before he joined Barcelona. That time though things did not work out but the Germans have clearly not doused their interest.

Corentin Tolisso has been struggling with injuries so it makes sense why the Bavarians want to sign him up. But then Bayern Munich are never a high spending club so it will be interesting to see just how much they are willing to spend for the midfielder.

Man City have several midfielders amongst their ranks but recently Bernardo Silva’s future has been in doubt and maybe this is why Pep Guardiola is interested in bringing Frenkie de Jong on board.

The 24-year-old can surely shine alongside players like Kevin De Bruyne and Gundogan. At Man City, he will not only be challenging for trophies but will also get to play in the best league in the world.

Manchester City have the financial power to beat Bayern Munich in this transfer race but if Frenkie de Jong wants to play regular and uninterrupted football then the Allianz Arena should be his next destination after Barcelona.
