Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag is trying desperately to sign Frenkie de Jong and Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the club will fight till the very end.

Barcelona need to offload some players due to their financial situation and since ETH wants to sign De Jong, the midfielder has been the centre of attraction for several weeks now.

The former Ajax player has made it clear that even though he’s heard all the rumours Barcelona are yet to talk to him regarding a possible summer sale.

When asked about a move to Man United, he said in an interview: “Of course I get that too. But I have not heard anything from the club management, so I assume that nothing is concrete, or that an agreement has already been reached. Then there’s no point in worrying about it.”

This candid statement has led many people to believe that Frenkie de Jong is not interested in joining Manchester United but according to Romano, there is still a chance that the midfielder moves to the Premier League.

The expert has stated three major conditions which need to be fulfilled for Man United to be able to get their hands on the Dutch international

1. Barcelona are ready to sell Frenkie de Jong due to their financial woes and if Manchester United offer an €85m fee then the Catalans are willing to trigger a sale.

2. The one major problem for Frenkie de Jong not wanting to join Man United is because they won’t be playing in the Champions League next but if Erik ten Hag can convince him that they will get back into the top-tier as early as 2023 then a deal can happen.

3. The third way via which the midfielder’s mind can be changed is by convincing him that the manager will build the midfield around him and that he will be an undroppable player under Erik ten Hag.

Can Man United lure in Frenkie de Jong?

Money is not a problem at all for Manchester United plus Erik ten Hag will be more than willing to offer Frenkie de Jong a regular starting role at the club. However, it’s the return to the Champions League which will be the main obstacle.

How Man United play in the Premier League next season will massively depend on their transfer business and if Ten Hag cannot bring in the right players then a top-four finish looks almost impossible.

Players like Lingard, Pogba and Juan Mata have already left the club and a few others will also be sold in the coming weeks so the manager will have to ensure he brings in the right number of players to fill the void. Frenkie de Jong, singlehandedly, cannot change United’s fate and the kind of mess that the club is in right now, a proper rebuilding could take more than one season.
