Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is fixated on bringing Frenkie de Jong to the club and according to Gerard Romero, Barcelona are more than willing to send him to the Premier League.
De Jong came very close to joining Man United in 2022 and as per multiple reports, the Red Devils are still interested in signing the midfielder. It’s unclear if Frenkie de Jong wants to leave Camp Nou this summer however, Romero is claiming that Barcelona are hoping that United will come in with an offer before deadline day.
Gerard Romero has said on his official Twitch platform: “Barcelona are hoping that Manchester United will come with an offer for Frenkie de Jong. But the problem is he is injured.”
Will Frenkie de Jong end up with Man United?
Frenkie de Jong is currently valued at €70 million but according to Fichajes, Barcelona will accept an offer of around €60 million for the Dutch midfielder, be it from Manchester United or any other team.
United won’t mind spending €60 million for a talented midfielder like FDJ because he along with Kobbie Mainoo can be the perfect central midfield partner. Casemiro and McTominay’s future is yet to be decided and if even one of them leaves, Ten Hag will need to bring in a top-class replacement.
However, Barcelona’s dream of cashing in on the 27-year-old might not come true for two major reasons.
Firstly, the midfielder has been on the sidelines due to an ankle injury since April and this problem could be a deal breaker for Manchester United. De Jong’s return to first-team action is still unknown and if he is set to miss the couple of months then United are not likely to make a move.
However, there are some contrasting reports by Spanish outlet Nacional, who are claiming that Manchester United have made an offer for Frenkie de Jong worth €50 million but Joan Laporta wants at least €85 million.
Secondly, back in 2022, Man United failed to land De Jong because the midfielder did not want to leave Barcelona and it looks like his feelings have not changed.
According to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, De Jong still has no interest in joining Manchester United and currently, the Premier League side are struggling to convince him.
Barcelona wants to get rid of Frenkie de Jong because they are in desperate need of funds but looking at all the major updates across Europe, it’s safe to say that the Dutch international will remain at Camp Nou, for one reason or another.
