The injury to Gabriel Jesus has hit the panic button at Arsenal and now Mikel Arteta has to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window.

Gabriel Jesus picked up an injury at the World Cup and now he has undergone surgery to solve his knee problem and the Brazilian will be out of action for several months. With no other world-class option for the centre-forward’s role, Arteta is now eyeing a move for Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha.

Atletico’s poor Champions League run this season has caused them a major financial setback which is why they have to offload several of their first-team players next month in order to balance the books.

As per several reports, Matheus Cunha is one such player who has been put up for sale and several Premier League sides have already shown an interest in the 23-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Wolves have opened talks with Atletico over a possible transfer but the Spanish side’s economic demands could become a stumbling block for them.

Wolves coach Julen Lopetegui has admitted his club’s interest in the striker but they will have to move swiftly if they want to land him before any other club makes a move.

Leeds United are also being linked with the Brazilian international but if Arsenal are seriously interested in Cunha then there’s only one place he’s heading next month. The Gunners are yet to make up their mind but if they do decide to make a move for him then all the other sides will take a backseat.

Cunha is nowhere close to the talent that Gabriel Jesus has because he has not scored even a single goal this season in the league plus in his 54 appearances for the club, the 23-year-old has scored only seven goals.

Matheus Cunha is not the only player who’s on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist because Arsenal are also being linked with others like Dusan Vlahovic. However, it won’t be easy to sign the Juventus striker so, in the end, Arsenal might have no other option but to settle for someone like Cunha.
