Arsenal beat Newcastle United in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Saturday but forward Gabriel Martinelli was ruled out with an injury.

The youngster’s time at the Emirates has been injury-ridden and this time, the Brazilian twisted his ankle while warming up for the Magpies clash. Speaking after the game, manager Mikel Arteta could not provide too many details about the injury but he certainly fears the worst for him.

The manager said, as per the club’s official website: “I am gutted. I was in my office before the game and one of the coaches came in and told me that Gabi had hurt himself, that he’d twisted his ankle.

“I went to the medical room and he was in tears. He was in a lot of pain and we’re going to have to see how he is. It didn’t look good. He was in pain so I imagine that we’re not going to have good news with him.

“We really want to know what’s going on. He’s a character and he wants to play the next game. He doesn’t care and can handle pain but I don’t know. Hopefully there is nothing too serious but to start with, it didn’t look too good.”

Gabriel Martinelli is one of the brightest prospects at Arsenal but the constant injuries are certainly not helping his growth at the club.

The 19-year-old had picked up a knee injury back in June and he’s only made a comeback to the first-team squad last month. And now this fresh ankle injury might keep him on the sidelines for another significant period.

This season Gabriel Martinelli has played in only three Premier League games for the Gunners and if the scan reports do not come out positive then he could very well miss the remainder of the campaign.
