The unfortunate death of George Floyd has sparked massive protests in the United States and everyone in the footballing world has come out to show solidarity with the indecent.
George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis last week when a police officer pressed his knee into his neck for several minutes and since then, this unfortunate death has been the centre of debate all across the globe.
And amongst all the other sections of the society, the footballing community has also come out to protest strongly against this incident.
The biggest spark was set by England international Jadon Sancho when he celebrated his hat-trick in the Bundesliga by showing a message of “Justice for George Floyd” written on his shirt.
Apart from Sancho, his BVB teammate, Achraf Hakimi did the same and both of them were booked for removing their shirts.
Following this, FIFA had to release a statement in which they have asked the competition organisers to use “common sense” regarding this whole incident.
“FIFA had repeatedly expressed itself to be resolutely against racism and discrimination of any kind and recently strengthened its own disciplinary rules with a view to helping to eradicate such behaviours,” FIFA said in the statement, as per The Mirror.
“FIFA itself has promoted many anti-racism campaigns which frequently carry the anti-racism message at matches organised under its own auspices.”
Right after this, a number of big European football clubs chose to speak out against racism and the death of George Floyd.

Manchester United superstar and World Cup winner Paul Pogba also sent out a strong message right after the death of George Floyd. Also, to protest against racism, the midfielder along with other superstars of the game chose to be part of a campaign called #blackoutuesday.

And now in a massive show of support, the Football Association has revealed that players in the Premier League will be allowed to show solidarity for George Floyd and stand up against racism, without being punished as per the laws.
“Where any behaviours or gestures on the pitch that may constitute a breach of the laws of the game have to be assessed, they would be reviewed on a case by case basis with a common-sense approach and understanding of their context,” the FA said in a statement.
“The power of football can break down barriers across communities and we remain deeply committed to removing all forms of discrimination from across the game we all love.”
