Rangers FC vs Napoli

Rangers FC are en route to the Europa League final later this month and Leon Balogun has claimed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is a lot less “emotional” than his predecessor.

Steven Gerrard did a fine job during his tenure at Ibrox but Giovanni van Bronckhorst has taken it one step further this season. The Dutchman took charge in November and during this short period of time, he has turned Rangers FC into a force to be reckoned with in Europe.

Balogun has revealed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is a lot more seasoned than Steven Gerrard, which is perhaps one of the biggest reasons why his side has been able to beat so many big sides in the Europa League.

“Steven was a bit more emotional; Gio is more at peace with himself,” he told SportBILD.

“He gives us confidence in a different way. He encourages us to trust in his plan but also in our abilities.

“He gives you many tactical tricks and subtleties that improve you. Little things that end up making a big difference, for example, in passing accuracy and positional play.

“This helps the team to implement its plan in the best possible way.”

Steven Gerrard transformed this side since taking over in June 2018 so he will obviously get a lot of credit for whatever success Rangers achieve this season. Gerrard could have taken them only so far because this was his first major managerial assignment.

Under Van Bronckhorst, the major thing that has improved is the side’s mettle in the European competitions. He is a lot more experienced manager as compared to Gerrard and his teams rightly emulate the same level of confidence even when they are in tough situations.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has managed 37 games so far and he’s tasted defeat in only five matches. He has a win percentage of 67.5% which is also higher than what Gerrard(64.8%) had at Rangers.

The current Villa manager’s foundation work was no doubt immaculate but if Gers can fight and win the Europa League title GvB’s name will be written in the club’s folklore for decades to come and all the hard work that Steven Gerrard had done will very evidently be overshadowed.
