Chelsea lost their recent Premier League encounter 2-0 to Everton this weekend and once again the Blues failed to capitalize on the slip-up for their top four rivals.

And speaking after the games, BBC pundits have pointed their fingers at Gonzalo Higuain who was cut a frustrated figure especially during the second half of the match.

On one hand, when Richarlison was tormenting the Chelsea back line, Gonzalo Higuain was making useless runs and the only thing he did was fling his hands in disappointment whenever the ball was not played to him.

And as per Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and ex-Everton midfielder Leon Osman, Gonzalo Higuain should learn a thing or two from Richarlison.

“He actually gave the Chelsea players a lesson on how to play the number nine role,” said Osman, speaking on BBC’s MOTD 2.

“He was committed, he won challenges, he went for the balls in the air that you would expect centre-halves to win.

“He is playing up front on his own against two centre-halves, but he didn’t give them a moment on the ball, and he got the goal to change the game.

“You don’t always have to touch the ball, but he was occupying centre-halves and making life difficult for them.”

Hasselbaink though a bit sympathetic towards Gonzalo Higuain seconded Osman’s views saying:

“You see the desire of [Richarlison] getting into the box and that is where you are going to score. You don’t have that enough with Higuain,

“That is maybe also that the midfielders and the wide players, and the full-backs don’t put it in, and that’s why he doesn’t believe it.

“But he needs to demand that because that is where people are going to judge him.

“In the first half, he tried to break the line and make that space, and he was a little bit unlucky,

“But then it changed, and [Marcos] Alonso is the one trying to go behind. But there is no desire or belief that he is going to win the ball and they are going to get it into the box.

“Higuain comes out, but there is nobody between the centre-halves or making a run, so how are you going to score?

“He is now the one trying to force the game, and again, he is in the middle and needs to break the line, but he doesn’t and it doesn’t matter how quick or how slow you are, you need to break that line for another midfielder, or for Alonso.

“The made it way too easy for Everton. Chelsea haven’t scored in eight [Premier League] games so far this season, and that’s way too much.

“I have sympathy with Higuain because they don’t feed him quick enough, but the worst thing he can do is go out wide because that is not his strength.

“His strength is being between the centre-halves and the chances he was getting in the first five or ten minutes, he needs to demand it more off of his team-mates.

“I used to do it as well, but you quickly realise that is the wrong thing to do, you need to play for the team and in your position.”
