Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has divided opinion amongst the Arsenal supporters over the past couple of seasons and it looks like the Swiss international has finally decided to end his relationship with the Gunners.

Xhaka joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 for a fee in the region of £30 million but over the past five years, the midfielder has failed to live up to the expectations and at best, he has been an average team player.

There have also been occasions when he has rubbed the fans in the wrong way but now all that will end as he is expected to join Jose Mourinho’s new project at AS Roma. The latest reports are suggesting that Granit Xhaka is holding advance talks with the Italian side.

Sky Sports claim: “Roma are in talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to Sky in Italy.

“The Gunners want a fee in the region of £21.5m (€25m), however Roma want to pay something closer to £10m plus bonuses.”

Chief Arsenal reporter for Football London, Chris Wheatley has gone one step further to suggest that the player has agreed on a five-year deal with Roma and he is set to leave Arsenal in the coming few days.

He wrote on Twitter: “Granit Xhaka has agreed a five year contract with Roma. Fee is expected to be in the region of €18-20m.

“He’ll become a Roma player very soon.”

This news has once again divided the Arsenal fans but contrary to popular belief not everyone is happy to see the Swiss international move out of the club this summer.

One user wrote on Twitter: “I don’t understand this @Arsenal at all.. Why would we sell the most important player at Arsenal currently.. His stats are crazy.. His impact on the team priceless..he’s been so integral in the transitions.. Very good with the young players in the field.”

Another one said: “I’m gutted to see this news. Poor treatment from the fans probably the reason he wants out so bad. Even if he’s not top notch, we could have kept him as a squad player. Xhaka is not as bad the fans paint him to be. Heck, he’s not even bad.”

A large section of the fans are also not happy with the fact that Arsenal are willing to accept such a low price for the midfielder. The fans feel their side should have earned a lot more from Xhaka’s sale, particularly when he still has two more years left on his current deal.

To date, Granit Xhaka has played in 220 games for Arsenal across all competitions but has managed to score only 13 goals and provide only 20 assists.
